From Home/DSL to Coporate HQ
----------
I want to create a VPN that includes my office PC running XP Pro on a dedicated ISP and my home PC using Windows 98 on a DSL connection. I know that I will need a VPN Router at home becasue my office does not support VPN and does not allow remote access to the network. However since I can get out to the internet I thought I could at least set up my computer at work on a VPN to allow me to share a personal database and "My Documents".

Please let me know if this is possible, if there are any restrictions concerning location of the database (it would be on one of the PCS and not on one of the corporate network drives)and how to set this up or where I can get more help.

Thanks!

VPN from Home to HQ is Possible
----------
Hi there! After purchasing a router, you may want to use a VPN Client software on the computer that you want to access from your office. However,I advise you to ask permission first from your network administrator before doing that coz some settings may not be allowed (only the person who has an administrative access can do that). Maybe you just have to explain to your network admin that you only want to access one PC and not one of the corporate drives.

VPN Client
----------
Thank you. Fortunately, I have administrative priveledge on the Client at my corprate office.

In summary, I need to install VPN Client Software which is included in 2000 and XP. Then put a VPN router at my home office.

Please let me know if that is correct. Thanks!

You got it right!

You're welcome!

Yes, that's it! You have to install a VPN client software to your PC at the office. And Windows 2000 and XP have that. Setting up a VPN router at your home office is also correct. I know a Linksys router that can cater to that. It is the BEFVP41 router. You can check it on their website at www.linksys.com.

FVS318 by NETGEAR

Another option is the Netgear box, which does all the Linky can do plus it's cheaper has a real firewall and gives you four more ports to work with.
