Satellite VPN speed issue
----------
Due to my geographical location my only solution for high speed internet access is a 2-way satellite system. I've had the system installed and the internet is v.quick which is fine. The problem occurs on the VPN connection. The connection establishes ok, but the speed is always 9600, which is pretty unusable. The VPN server is Windows W2k Advanced Server (Service Pack 2) running MS VPN. The client is MS VPN running on Windows 98se. The VPN connection is fine if run over telephone dial up or DSL. Any thoughts/pointers would be gratefully appreciated.

Latency
----------
Mike,
The typical problem with using a satellite connection to access a VPN is the latency rather than the throughput. There may be settings on the VPN router that can help you see better performance. What kind of VPN solution are you using?

DirecWay and VPN
----------
Mike,
Sorry I don't have a solution for you, just another question. What service did you order from DirecWay? My company is trying to run VPN over DirecWay residential service at a telecommuter's house--we can create the tunnel but can't see anything on the network from the client side. We're thinking we may need to upgrade to small business service to get it to work. Any info would be appreciated.

Josie

The DirecPC system I've got is single user slowest connection. The company who supplies it have got other users using the same system and have VPN connection to their companies. These people are using different VPN solutions. The technical people have suggested that even the best VPN connection will only connect at 1/3 the speed of the internet connection. Anyway for more information about the service you can look at http://www.educom.ie the package description is ES400

Same here...
----------
I'm not using satellite connections. But, I think it may be in the W2K server lies the problem. I have been testing a VPN here locally. And I connected to W2K server locally and it only connect at 9600 baud. Where as when I setup my Netopia router to be the VPN server it allowed the full 10Mbps throughput. So, I think it has something to do with how the VPN server is setup not your satellite connection.
Just what I've seen through my experiments.
