VPN Solutions with Dynamic IP's
----------
I'd like to hear what everyone is using to create site to site VPN's using dynamic IP's on both sides. So far I've heard about a SonicWall TELE3 to TELE3 VPN solution , Symantec 200R VPN/Firewall Appliance to 200R VPN, and someone also mentioned Win2k to Win2k VPN's can also handle dynamic IP's. What solution have you used to deal with this issue?

Only one end can be dynamic ..
----------
... one end always needs to have a fixed adress.

If both ends are dynamic, how do they know where the other is? They don't. If you and your girlfriend change phone-numbers at the same time, how can you can to her or she to you? No way.

so at least one end _needs_ to be fixed.
doesn't matter if you use vpn in hardware (like netscreen or sonicwall) or in software (win2000).

VPN & dynamic IP
----------
But...
If you still have your girl friends' email addr you could do the following:

-Client emails a request to the server
-Server validates the identity of the client with a certificate, generates a 'session password', checks its' current IP addr, and encripts this info which it emails back to the client.
-Client now knows the route to the server. And can procede with a session.
-When the server senses that the last active client is logged off it renews its' IP addr.

Just a thought. Could this work?

Drew,
What kind of VPN solution are you using that you can email the VPN server and get authenticated?

VPN & dynamic IP

Hi;
This is just a thought. What I've got is two ADSL connections to the internet. The IP addr on each side seem to be stable as long as the email is automatically checked every few minutes.

My thought is that email addr's are consistant, so that could be used as a channel to establish the IP of the server side. If ALL the required steps on the server side can be performed by... perhaps a script... then one of the varible IP's could be resolved.

I'm just learning networking & perhaps I'm out in left field. But is that a possible solution?

Drew.

VPN via dynamic address
----------
Is there a solution for this yet?
I would like to connect three offices and the provider will only let me pull dynamic addresses.
