VPN windows 2000 setup - can use ip add but not comp name
----------
Hi, I have setup VPN server in my environment using 2 Network Card . In my Intranet, we do not have internal DNS, DHCP but we do have wins.
I have already setup at the Intranet network adapter my Win server ip address.
when we do the vpn connection, I can ping all the servers but cannot ping using the server name.
If I want to connect to my file server, I have to mnaually add it in the windows explorer using ip address. Is there a way to make the client recognise the comp by name and not ip address. Does it got to do with the DHCP relay agent properties? because I do not have DHCP server.
By the way, my Domain controller is still in nT4 and not win2000.

appreciat e the feedbacks.

I red about Your VPN problem
----------
Hi!

If the server doesn't respond by name, two situations are likely: the server might not have a registered domain name, or your ISP DNS server might be down or not working properly.

DNS server translates a Fully Qualified Domain Name into its TCP/IP address. When you have a DNS server, and it's working properly, your computer can find and connect to antoher computer by name. When you don't have a DNS server (or server isn't working), you can't connect to a omputer by name. Instead, you have connect by the destination computer's TCP/IP address.

As I know, DHCP server isn't related with the problem you have. Anyway, try to enable DHCP server - it's important for some other points in configuration of VPN.

Thanks to Anil Desai, I've got this, so check this out:

Hope it helps!
