more now on VPN workings
so I have ANOTHER
question!
I have a
security router (ZyWall
10) that will act as host
for any IKE IPSec client.
This will allow
telecommuters to 'be' on
our LAN from
home.
I welcome
client software
suggestions.
Thank

suggestion ---------- Rich,
What's wrong
with the clients that
come with
Windows? This only
applies to those
computers running WinXP,
Win2k, Win98 or
WinNT. Have you tried
running the free
client? Also, I'd
suggest checking out the
SafeNet client. It's the
most prevalent and it's
been around for quite
some time now. But hey,
free is usually the way
to go when it comes to
client software.
| mudshark Member since: 2002-03-14 21:21:46 | posted: 2002-03-26 15:11:40 Windows VPN client ---------- I thought only Win 2K &
XP had (good?)
clients.
Questions
then...
On Win 98
PCs how doI configure and
run the
client?
Can I add
the client to
Win95?
Thx, R | phildom Member since: 2001-11-20 10:00:00 | posted: 2002-03-26 16:45:17 Windows VPN client ---------- The client that comes
with Win98 is a PPTP
client, thus it can't
terminate into your
router unless you have a
PPTP compliant router.
I'm not sure what Zyxel
is compatible with. If
you want to simplify the
whole process look into
getting a reputable third
party VPN client that is
interoperable(aka
compatible) with your
Zyxel VPN router. Ask
someone from the Zyxel
mailing list or someone
from the company what
third party clients work
with your VPN box.
I've found that you
can either do it the
complex way, by trying to
get all your endusers to
do the work, or you can
simplify and make
everyone's life a little
easier. Check and see
if the SafeNet client is
compatible with your
box.
good luck and
let me know how it
goes.
| mudshark Member since: 2002-03-14 21:21:46 | posted: 2002-03-26 16:55:33 Windows VPN client ---------- SafeNet and F-Secure both
make IKE IPSec clients
that will work with the
ZyXel but neither is
cheap.
Any
idea: 1) What PPTP
compliant routers
exist? 2) How to
configure and how to run
the Win 9x PPTP
client?
The most
helpful contacts thus far
have been at SafeNet and
F-Secure. The hardware
folks are little more
than useless.
Thx | andy11261 Member since: 2002-03-23 16:12:28 | posted: 2002-03-27 08:02:27 Windows VPN Client ---------- Guys,
I am also
interested in getting a
client to work with a VPN
router supporting
IPSEC/IKE. The router I
am using is the Linksys
VPN router, which has
similar support to Xylink
models for VPN
connections.
The
default client on both
Win2k and XP seem to
indicate that they need a
remote endpoint that
supports L2TP over IPSEC?
Would this be compatible
with a router that only
supports
IPSEC/IKE?

(formally TimeStep) and
Safenet's Client are the
only two clients that I
know that are truely
IPSec complete. |
