issues with a com21 cable modem
----------
I have a problem with WAN network node that uses a cable modem to connect.
The components involved are:

linksys router
switch
hubs< br>Win98 workstations
Win2000 server
cable modem(s)

The workstations use either telnet or ICE.TCP to connect to a windows 2000 server, SCO Unix, or Novell server.

The protocols involved are IPX/SPX, TCP/IP, and pptp (for a VPN connection)

The problem I am having is; whenever the workstation connects to the WAN server, (another location), via the cable modem, the client software (ICE.TCP) will freeze up after about 5 minutes of use. Only the telnet clients freeze. The rest of the desktop remains unfrozen.

I am thinking , possibly, there is a packet size, and/or speed issue involving the VPN and the cable modem.

Now my question, (sorry about the long email). Given all the above information, do you see any component, protocol, OS, or device that has known issues with a com21 cable modem, the router, or pptp protocol? I am stumped!

Note: when the connections explained above are made with an analogue modem, the problem does not arise. This makes me think there is some issue with the packet sizes.

Note II: All systems that use a cable modem have this problem, (throughout our client list

any help is greatly appriciated
